Brazilian Film Days, art exhibits, and film screenings

Jacaranda Images presents Ahmed Khalidi’s exhibition “Go Back to Where you Came From”, which documents the journey of the artist from Palestine /Jordan to Australia and back again, confronting the dilemma of where to call home. In the form of mixed media paintings, the artist explores the idea of belonging and identity; are they relative and changeable depending on one’s geographical location? The work delves into memory, childhood experiences, family photographs, and stories as well as recent political history. Another art exhibit, “Rose Water – Homage to Twombly” by Nazar Yahya, will run until 15th of December in Karim Gallery.

The Brazilian Film Days will present film screenings from Monday the 25th until the Wednesday the 27th (7:00 pm). 2 Filhos De Francisco “2 Sons of Francisco” on Monday, Central do Brasil “Central Station” on Tuesday, and Se Eu Fosse Você “If I Were You” on Wednesday.

The Shoman Foundation will be screening a film by independent American director Jim Jarmush, titled “Coffee and Cigarettes”. The film is composed of 11 comic short stories built on one another to create a cumulative effect as the characters discuss a variety of subjects, including drugs – all the while sitting around drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes. The theme of the film is absorption in the obsessions, joys, and needs of life (Tuesday at 6:30 pm).
St.Mary of Nazareth Church will be hosting a Christmas Pipe Organ Concert in collaboration with the Jordan choir. The concert will feature famous church music, including Bach, Handel, Mozart, and more on Thursday (7:00 pm).
